Dr. Krishna Subramony Iyer (K. S. Iyer) is a pediatric cardiac surgeon in South Asia. Serving as Executive Director of Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, he has spent over four decades specializing in neonatal and pediatric congenital heart surgery.

His clinical expertise encompasses surgical corrections for complex transposition of the great arteries (TGA), tetralogy of Fallot, single-ventricle Fontan procedures, truncus arteriosus repairs, and infant heart surgeries.

Education & Australian Training

Dr. Iyer earned his MBBS (1978) from AIIMS, New Delhi, winning the Institute Gold Medal as Best Graduate of the Year. He completed his MS in General Surgery (1981) and M.Ch in CTVS (1984) from AIIMS, earning the Hira Lal Gold Medal for top postgraduate performance.

In 1989, he completed advanced fellowship training in neonatal cardiac surgery at Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, under Dr. R.B.B. Mee.

Historical Surgical Milestones

Dr. Iyer achieved landmark surgical "firsts" in India, including performing the nation's first successful Double Switch Operation in 1993 and the first rapid two-stage Arterial Switch operation in 1992. Founder and past President of the Pediatric Cardiac Society of India, he serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
