Dr. Arvind Kumar is a preeminent thoracic surgeon and lung cancer specialist in India. Serving as Chairman of Chest Surgery, Chest Oncology, and Lung Transplantation at Medanta - The Medicity, Gurugram, he brings over four decades of surgical excellence.

Dr. Kumar is globally recognized for pioneering robot-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) in India. His clinical practice covers radical lung cancer resections, mediastinal tumor excisions, airway reconstruction, tracheal surgeries, emphysema volume reduction, and single/double-lung transplantations.

Education & Academic Background

Dr. Kumar completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He served on the faculty at AIIMS for nearly three decades, rising to the position of Professor of Surgery and heading the gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery units before moving to the private healthcare sector.

National Honors & Public Advocacy

Dr. Kumar was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2014 for his invaluable contributions to medicine and thoracic surgery.

Beyond the operating room, he is a passionate public health advocate, having founded the Lung Care Foundation to raise awareness about air pollution, tobacco cessation, and respiratory health.
